With Memorial Day just around the corner, I had the honor of interviewing three war/combat veterans. Ed Gresco, a soldier from World War II shared some well remebered tales of his combat time in the Phillipines. Ed was the only veteran I could find from that war who was willing to come on the show and talk about his experiences. That fact really impressed upon me the trauma that war creates within those who serve and fight. Boston Town Clerk Dave Shenk joined me in studio to talk about his service as a medical reservist during both Desert Storm and Operation Iraqi Freedom. Dave’s description of his unit’s living conditions in Iraq bordered on unbelieveable, especially when he detailed the bathroom duty that everyone was required to share.
Finishing up the show, New York City Police Officer Chris Reynolds called in and talked about his work at the World Trade Center immediately following 9/11. Chris is a member of my family and it was surprisingly emotional for both of us to share details about the tragedy that we had never before discussed.
Good old fashioned patriotic music helped to set the mood for this show that I dedicated to those who have given of their time, talents and in some cases their lives so that we can enjoy the great luxury of freedom. Give the show a listen over the Memorial Day Weekend and when you do, remember those who deserve our everlasting gratitude and respect.
