My cousin attended Virginia Tech. My uncle resided in Blacksburg, Virginia for a few years where I visited him. It is a lovely college town that absolutely bustles with energy on fall weekends when Tech football takes center stage.
This shooting rampage that has overtaken the Tech Campus is unfathomable to me. The televised footage looks more like a CSI episode than anything I can imagine taking place in Blacksburg. Further, watching the students who were actually in the rooms where the gunman stole life from so many, as they talk to the media in calm and collected tones, seems bizarre.Â
The whole disturbing tragedy brings me back to 9/11. Ever since that day when terrorists stole our national sense of security and much more, it seems as if we are always in wait for that next henious crime to happen. And when it does, we sit glued to our televisions watching victims and their families describe their pain and sorrow, all the while acknowledging the events as our new world order.
Living in a small rural town, I often feel protected and removed from most of the violence that permeates the world. The mass murders at Virginia Tech is a reminder that no such safety and security exists any longer… anywhere.

It is such a tragedy. Yet I can’t stop thinking about how Bush used this as a platform to push the NRA agenda. Disgusting!
MY heart goes out to all those that lost loved ones. I can’t imagine how they must feel.

It’s easier and simpler to buy a gun today than it is to obtain a drivers license. Sad.
